Why is it that when you go to look for a home with acreage in the city and only find subdivisions?

I mean this is crap, my husband and I have to move to a city on account of his job, and it's nothing but freaking subdivisions. We prefer acreage and paying 150,000 for a home with acreage rather than a 200,000 home that has a yard the size of a dollar coin. I mean come on this is complete bull who wants to pay that much for a piece of crap land and house. Will redistributing the wealth help?
